![]() ![]() The principal of Private School 2 described how social justice is ‘an inward journey into yourself and an outwards journey into the world to make sure that you are a happy productive citizen who contributes to peace’. For example, the Embassy School High leader stated, ‘I want students to be good human beings who pay attention to what is going on around them’. Many of the school leaders at the affluent schools discussed how they tried to instill empathy and a sense of compassion in their students. ![]() Thus, the ways these school leaders viewed social justice was certainly impacted by the environment where they worked and lived. This principal went on to say, ‘We are constantly involved in creating the sense of equity in children … we create that spirit in children’. The leader of Private School 1 commented that ‘human rights and social justice are when you appreciate the person next to you or around you just the way he or she is’. School leaders of Embassy School High and Private School 1 both described social justice as an awareness and understanding of others. I think one cannot help but live here in India and not question, why me? Why do I have these opportunities in life? Why not this other person?The leader of Inclusion School described social justice as being ‘committed to the society and trying to do justice in whatever way you can: education, vocation, rehabilitation, food, and shelter’. I think about equality, opportunities, human rights, dignity for all, and trying to level the playing field.
